Updates Galore

Hey Everyone!

Firstly, I apologize for not posting lately, school has literally so busy! Stay in school kids so you aren't 23 and still only a junior in college. whomp whomp.

Luckily I have made so much progress on the Alice cosplay!

Alice's dress is almost completely finished, the only part left is the collar! Which I found a great YouTube tutorial video for, because if you have ever used pattern instructions you know they are terrible.

(here's the link to that video!)

The apron is also almost complete, there are just some final touches to be made, finishing seams, sewing on the lace trim and making a closure.

Last night I made a "Drink me" bottle for a prop and will be thrifting a tea pot for the boyfriend to use as a prop for the Mad Hatter.

I also went and spent a crazy amount of money on fancy makeup for the final Alice look and did some practicing with that. I felt pretty fancy.

Fancy, super fake eyelashes, which are the hardest thing to apply!

There are sleeves now and it has been hemmed, I took in the dress at the waist and it doesn't fit on the form well to take new pictures. :(

NYCC is officially 10 days away and I am so beyond excited!!!!

SO MUCH PROGRESS!

I apologize greatly that I have not updated my blog in over a week! :(
I just started school again full time and it is quite the adjustment.
BUT!

I have made so much progress this week on the Alice cosplay!!!

Firstly, The apron is almost complete! I will be making final touches when the dress is done so I can see exactly where i want it to fall.
I've also added a little lace trim for now, just for some feminine touch.
(Ignore creepy wig head in the background)

Secondly, I made Alice's under skirt! In the Disney version of Alice in Wonderland, Alice has quite the poofy dress. So to get that look I made a tulle under skirt. This was SO easy to make! I think I'll be making a tutorial on how I did it soon, so keep and eye out!

I still need to trim the edges so they are equal in length, but again I am waiting until the dress is done for measurement sake.

Today and tomorrow will be all about working on Alice's final dress!
(And a little studying for my accounting quiz)
But mostly cosplay!!

Thanks for reading guys!
Stay tuned for a video to go into more detail.

Much love,
Megan

Mad Hatter Hat!

So this weekend consisted of mass quantities of thrifting and crafting.
I successfully (if I do say so myself) made the Mad Hatter hat for the boyfriend's cosplay costume!

I have made a "how to" video of sorts with a rough description of how I made the hat!

Materials used:

- Halloween store top hat ($13)
- Light olive-y green fabric (1yard)
- Hunter green ribbon (18 inches, 3" wide ribbon)
- Elmer's spray adhesive (found @ joann fabrics for about $6)
- Cream foam paper (1 sheet, $1)
- Black sharpie
- Hot glue for attaching ribbon

This project took me about 2 hours, and most of that was figuring out how to make it. I can't say that my way is the best way, but it works for what I need out of the cosplay and I feel like for future cosplays I have the confidence to make another top hat.
Most of the work was also just manipulating the fabric to lay the way I wanted it to, a great thing about the spray adhesive is that it can be manipulated for a while before it will harden completely; that is why I suggest using it rather than hot glue.

Here's a video that goes into more detail on the hat!

Thanks so much as always guys!
Much love,
Megan
